1. Palatinus Thermal, Strand, and Wave Pool

If you’re planning a trip and beach outing in Budapest, make a detour to Palatinus. Located on Margaret Island, in a nature conservation area, this bath was the first in the capital to allow outdoor bathing. It opened in 1919 and became so popular that it had to be expanded in 1936. Today, the thermal, strand, and wave pool, open year-round, offer 15 pools along with therapeutic and wellness treatments to provide relaxation and entertainment for visitors.

Nearby attractions: Margaret Island, Kobuci Garden, Vasarely Museum, Óbuda Zichy Mansion.

2. Fonyód Dog Beach

Our beach collection wouldn’t be complete without Lake Balaton. Dog owners’ dreams came true when the Fonyód Dog Beach opened in 2016, allowing pets to splash around. The long, beautiful grassy shore has plenty of trash cans and dog poop bags, making it easy to keep the area clean. There is a traditional beach staircase for people, and a special ramp for dogs. Don’t forget to take in the scenery: while drying off with your dog on the shore, you’ll have a beautiful view of Badacsony.

Nearby attractions: Fonyód Pier, Xantus János Sphere Lookout – Balatonboglár, Maritime History Visitor Center and Lookout – Balatonföldvár, József Attila Memorial Museum – Balatonszárszó.

You can try water skiing, banana boating, jet skiing, water bobbing, pedal boating, and kayaking. The sandy shore features two giant slides, and relaxing on the nearly 500-meter stretch of beach can give you a nice sun-kissed glow. If you tire of swimming, you can also participate in various water tours to explore the wildlife of Lake Tisza.

The Harkány Thermal and Strand Bath was voted Bath of the Year in 2019, so it definitely deserves some attention. Located in Harkány's 13.5-hectare ancient park, among centuries-old trees and Zsolnay eosin fountains, it is one of Central Europe’s most famous bathing places. One part of the complex features the spontaneous effects of thermal water, while thrill-seekers can enjoy the water slide park.
